Snowflake Challenge #5
Talk about what has improved in your life thanks to fandom.
I became better at writing in general via fanfiction. There are so many ways that fanfiction helps your writing but overall, I am able to write faster. If I have trouble writing, I put a skeleton down in e-mails/paragraphs and back fill what I am missing. I'm still slow at editing and I still have perfectionist tendencies, but it anything that's because reading and writing fanfic has refined my tastes. I know what I like and I like what I like but I wouldn't know if I wasn't in so many fandoms.
I have to add that because I am doing Fitness Boxing Fists of the North Star, my arms have toned a lot. Because I do cosplay and cosplay and attending cons does take a lot of walking, I do focus on my fitness to stay uninjured and stay at the convention longer.
Making comics and zines has helped me meet so many people and make so many friends. I do feel like my friends through art and comics have lasted longer than the people I have met through cosplay but I have a great core of friends I have meet through Homestuck cosplay to the point I was invited to one of their weddings. I enjoy attending events like TCAF to meet my fandom friends as well! It's very fun!
Through cosplaying, my sewing experience has increased but I have other smaller hobbies through cosplay that I enjoy such as embroidery, millinery (hat making) and most of all, wig styling. I feel like I have become an expert level wig stylist and it's something I enjoy doing outside of cosplay. There are new techniques as of the last five years so I'd like to keep making elaborate wigs even now. Also, cosplay has led me to sew all of my current clothes I wear that least half my wardrobe is homemade or fitted.
I also think I just got faster at everything because you just want to get more things done so you can get online and hang out with your fandom friends, especially when I was in my 20s. Meal prep? More time to write. Cleaning? Done quick so I have more time for cosplay? Better at work and job tasks? Just to have more energy at home to make fanart. 🤣🤣🤣
