Challenge #3
Despite society's insistence otherwise, the beliefs and opinions that we hold about things change over time. We thought it was important that we reflect that (and perhaps laugh at our previously ill-considered opinions) with this challenge.

I used to believe in building communities but now I'm fine with five people who read my work or just having a small cosplay group with parts unfilled. I used to think that it was okay to let everyone join your fandom and I don't because there are a lot of bad actors and bad people that maybe your community shouldn't tolerate bad behaviour, rudeness and tantrums. I've definitely been more discerning if someone has the potential for growth and is has good intentions. It's okay to have dandelions and broad leaf plantains in your garden, but you wouldn't want giant hogweed literally burning and blinding people.

I've actually hosted multiple in person cosplay meets and am well know as a "stage manager person" but yeah... I don't do well in cliquey groups. I have changed, I'm more discerning and gate-keepy. I try to vet people who try to join my community more now due to past experiences.

Not cliquey because it's not based on stuff like internet popularity or looks, but more gate-keepy because my current community is full of people who have good social behaviour, treat the places they visit with respect and don't harass or bully others in the social circle.

Right now I'm running an unofficial group that people pop-in for because I am really organized, but I kind of don't want it to expand because I don't want to deal with immature people. I've definitely been pro-gatekeeping. Basically, everyone assembles as long as I call the activity because I am the most organized and good at social event managing and checking in with others. I'm happy because everything is organized and everyone is happy because everything is organized.

It's a fandom community but if someone is coming in because in order to look for a date or life partner, no. I've been in too many fandoms and I can say, it's this type of dating-obsessed person that has turn it apart half of the time. I'm too old for that and the people in my circle are already married or in partnership and it makes everyone feel uncomfortable.

My current fandom community is full of 30+ year old people and everyone is mature and communicative, I really don't need someone who cries because they're not getting their way---which has happened and they were 29 years old. A grown adult is not always mature one.
